Introduction to Agriculture Food and Natural Resources

Grades: 9-12 Semesters: 2 Credits: 2 Description: This course is designed for beginning agricultural education students. You will be introduced to the world of agriculture. Throughout the course, students will participate in activities that improve their employability skill, provide career exploration, and gain exposure to all areas of the agriculture industry. Students in this course will learn to solve problems, conduct research, analyze data, work in groups, take responsibility for work, actions, and learning, and gain confidence in communications. |
Plant Science |

Grades: 10-12 Semesters: 1 or 2 Credits: 2 Description: In this course students will learn the science behind plants while growing their own specimen, conducting experiments, and completing hands-on learning activities. Students will work in teams, explore plant-based careers, and understand how plants impact the global agricultural industry. There is also the possibility of gaining hands-on experience in landscaping in this course based on project and materials availability. |
Agricultural Power and Technology
Prerequisite(s): None (Introduction to Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources is recommended)
Grades: 10-12 Semesters: 1 or 2 Credits: 2 Description: In this course, students will gain foundational knowledge in agricultural mechanics. This class will have inquiry-based activities, projects, and problems. Students will learn about shop safety, tool operation, materials and use, fabrication, energy and power, and engineering and technological applications. Special projects may be assigned based on the availability of materials. |
Animal Science
Prerequisite(s): None
Grades: 11-12 Semesters: 1 or 2 Credits: 2 Description: This course will focus on the care and management of domestic and farm animals. During this course we will cover breed identification, global impact of animals, animal anatomy and physiology, reproduction, genetics, selection, animal health, and veterinary sciences. Students will also receive YQCA certification during this course. |
Natural Resources and Ecology
Prerequisite(s): None
Grades: 10-12 Semesters: 1 or 2 Credits: 2 Description: This course will focus on the fields of ecology, conservation, and the world around us. Students will learn and plan for effective uses of water, land, air, and wildlife management as it applies to the ever changing world around us. Students will also examine the importance of natural resources and how human interaction impacts and provides benefit to it. Students will receive the chance to examine the fishing and hunting industries as part of this course - always weather pending. |
Agri-Business
Prerequisite(s): None
Grade: 12 Semesters: 2 Credits: 2 Description: This course focuses on business and economic principles applied to decision making and problem solving in the management of an agricultural business. Students will explore career readiness (as it applies to the ag industry), ag economics, ag marketing, ag communications, ag sales, and farm business management. The Farm Game may be used to demonstrate record keeping and decision making as it applies to farm business practices. Additionally, students in this course may be responsible for marketing and selling a product on behalf of the Ag Department - if resources allow. |
