Principles of Agronomy
Prerequisite(s): Taking the COMPASS test (talk with school counselor) and Plant Science
Grades: 11-12
Semesters: 1
Credits: 1 elective credit and 3 college credits through Hawkeye Community College
Description: This semester long course will cover an introduction to the various aspects of Agronomy. Study will include taxonomy, plant development, farming practices, machinery usage and identification, crop production, and soil science. In addition, students will be engaged in a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) program and leadership experiences through the FFA. All students involved in an agricultural education course are members of the FFA.

Survey of the Animal Industry

Description: Students enrolled in this class will receive 3 dual enrollment credits with Hawkeye
Community College. This semester long class will study an introduction to the various
species and breeds of domestic livestock and develop an appreciation for the principle of
livestock production and product marketing. Topics include: breeds, basic management
and marketing of animal products; including beef cattle and dairy cattle, horses, poultry,
sheep, and goats. Students will also continue development of Supervised Agricultural
Experience (SAE) programs, and record keeping. Students need to be motivated
learners, as this class pace is fast.
